Women Win, Men Tie

January 26th was our final meet in season before championship. During the meet we recognized our sole senior Gwenn Lillie. Gwenn was a captain for the past 3 years and her known nickname was "MaMa Gwenn" which I think says it all. She is graduating from Wells with a Biology major and Math minor and plans to go to grad school in Physical Therapy. We wish her all the best!

It was a great last meet for Gwenn because the women's team won against Cazenovia College which makes this season the best season (most wins) Wells has seen from the women's swim team since 1981-1982 season. This is a great accomplishment and I know the women worked very hard to earn this title.

Highlights:
Hilary Feudale (FR) continuing her dominate performances in the 100 BA (1:07.15) earned 1st place.

Hallie Hanson (SO) earned 2nd place in the 200 fly (3:01.71) while taking off 7 seconds to earn a PR.

Matt Amerongen (FR) took off a total of 35 seconds in his 1000 FR for a PR (12:14.23) and earning 2nd place.

Tom Dougherty (SO) taking off another second in the 100 BR (1:13.34) earning a PR and 2nd place. Dougherty and team-mate Jacob Cohn (FR) went on to earn 1st and 2nd place in the 200 BR respectively.

Matt Sleezer (JR) earned 1st in place in the 50 FR (23.14).

Patrick Munroe (FR) swam the 200 BA for the first time in his career earning 2nd place at the meet and 2nd on Wells' Top Ten Times (2:22.66). In the 200 IM Munroe had a very exciting and close 200 IM race where he earned a PR (2:19.03).

Dean's List

Overall 30 student-athletes earned the Dean's List this past semester. To earn placement on the list, students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.50 or greater for at least 12 hours of coursework in a given semester.

The Men's & Women's Swim Team had 4 student-athletes....

Men's Team
Tom Dougherty (SO)
Tyler Fischetti (SO)
Patrick Munroe (FR)

Women's Team
Nina Daniels (FR)

Congratulations!

Wells Women Win!

January 19th the Express went to Mansfield, PA to swim against the Mansfield Univeristy (women only) and University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. It was a tough meet however the women were able pull out another win. With this win the women's team has tied the most amount of season wins since 1981-1982 season. This was very exciting for the team because they also swam very well.

Highlights:
Nina Daniels (FR) took off about 20 seconds in her 1000 FR for a PR (12:32.19) and then later on took off 8 seconds on her season's best in the 500 FR (6:06.42).

Hilary Feudale (FR) with another great performance won the 50 FR (26.87). Later on in the meet she also won the 100 BA (1:07.04) for a season's best.

Meghan Terry (FR) earned a season's best and 2nd place in the 200 IM (2:37.60) while her team-mate Hallie Hanson (SO) earned 3rd place and her best in season time (2:42.62).

The team had been training double sessions plus dryland training twice a week so by the time this meet came the team did not have their full energy. Even though they were tired, they did not show it by have many season and personal best times!

For his great race he earned NEAC Athlete of the Week. This was the 2nd time Munroe earned this award. Team-mate Matt Sleezer (JR) also took first place in the 50 FR (23.01) and 100 FR (51.69).
