Alternative Spring Break

"Students are interested in using their time and talents for more than just partying on the beach, says Tiffany. "Many of us find service work to be a more engaging and rewarding alternative." Including Tiffany there were 10 total volunteers to join forces with Habitat for Humanity including our senior captain, Kelsey. Tiffany, President of the College Community Service and Activism Board stated, “They still need a lot of help (in New Orleans). They’ve lost some of their limelight, because of all the other natural disasters going on".

At Wells, participating students had to chip in $250 each for their airfare and raised some $1,000 selling cookies to cover their food and lodging costs. The college donated $3,000 to rent a van and defray other trip costs, said Becca Cooper, Wells’ Events and Programming Coordinator and one of the chaperons.

“I’ve always been big in volunteering. It’s just something I find very rewarding,” Tiffany said.

New Records

We have started to put up the new records on the board today. A total of 15 records have been broken in one season! Since there are so many broken records the updating was brought to a quick halt after we realized we didn't have enough numbers/letters.

Hopefully, they will come in soon!

Men's States

The men's team had an amazing season. By far the best season that I have seen since the men's team was established in 2006. The men's team made it to finals in every relay plus Jeff placed 23nd in prelims to earn the right to swim at finals. This was also a men's team history making moment.

Day 1
500 FR - Mike (JR) broke the school record by 7 seconds and beat his time by 8 seconds! and Chris (SO) took off 18 seconds
200 IM - Jeff (JR) took off another 3 seconds holding on to his record while Dan (FR) took off another 5 seconds for a PR.

Day 2
200 Medley Relay - Mike (JR), Jeff (JR), Drew (SO) and Court (SR) took off an impressive 2 seconds to keep the record (1:47.00)
100 Fly - Dan (FR) took off another second (1:01.29), Anthony (SO) dropped 5 seconds (1:03.11) and Chris (SO) dropped one more second (1:04.22)
100 BR - Jeff placed 22nd at prelims with a time of 1:02.76 earning his place at finals. This was Jeff's first time swimming an individual event at finals!
100 BA - Mike (JR) broke the college record as a freshmen with a time of 1:04.04 but hasn't been able to break again until now. He dropped 2 seconds bring his time and the record to 1:01.65.

Day 3
200 BA - Chris (SO) just started swimming this even this year and was able to drop another 5 seconds off his time.
200 BR - Jeff (JR) took off 5 seconds (2:22.80)
200 Fly - Dan (FR) just started swimming this event this year and was able shave off another 3 seconds to his time and keeping the record (2:27.02)
400 FR Relay - Mike (JR), Court (SO), Jeff (JR) and Drew (SO) was able to take off a total of 2 seconds from their seed time, prelims and finals. The record is now set at 3:35.86 with Mike holding a 54.33, Court posting a 55.47, Jeff posting 52.40 and Drew 51.96.
