Commencement 2008

Saturday, May 24th, 2008 was Commencement for 87 Wells seniors. Commencement is held at the Aurora Inn, with the Cayuga Lake as it's background. It was personally, the first commencement that I have attended for Wells and I am sure I will attend all of them in the future. The day was picturesque with blue skies, bright sun and of course the lake.

The Wells swim team had two graduating seniors, Erica and Matt.

Matt graduated with an expected degree in Psychology.

Erica graduated cum laude, earned distinction in her degree of American Studies, Onyx Prize in Student Journalism, Kathryn S. Maloney Senior Scholar Athlete Award (athlete with highest gpa) and she was enducted into Phi Beta Kappa. During the graduating ceremony she also received the Presidents Award by President Lisa Ryerson.

This was a beautiful event and you can see the joy from our Senior's smiles as they hold their degrees in hand in the pictures.

Kickball

The 2008 Senior class attempted to have the same glory as they did last year when they dominated the administration/faculty/staff team but not this year. We had two key players on the "field", Men's Basketball coach, Joe, pitching and Professor Bailey on first base.

To start things off President Ryerson was the first person up at "bat".

The Seniors did get the first 2 runs in but in the end the score was 17 to 7.

Some highlights from the game were two of our graduating swimmers were in attendance, Erica and Matt. I believe Matt did score a run or two.

It was a lot of fun on a rainy day. Commencement is this Saturday and I am hoping for sunny skies.

Race for the Cure

On Saturday, May 17th, The Express Lane team of 12 either ran or walked for Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure (breast cancer). It was a gorgeous day with over 8,000 people running or walking.

Carolyn (class of '74), our assistant swim coach, had a time of 31:22 and placed 17th in her age group. Her daughter Erin ran along with her Mom. Jess (class of '08) raced her first 5K ever and beat her goal of 40 minutes, she ran it in 38 minutes. I also ran the 5K and placed 30th in my age group with a time of 27:37, a personal best as well!

The Express Team also raised over $600 that goes directly towards Breast Cancer research and education.

Overall, it was a great experience and I can't wait until next year!
Maybe you can join us next year?

Pictures will be posted soon...
